Cellasto
Microcellular Polyurethane (PU) Elastomer
Cellasto is the trade name for components made of BASF polyurethanes’ microcellular PU elastomer. It is often used in place of rubber in shock absorbing applications due to its progressive load-deflection characteristics, smaller space requirements, lower weight, and superior durability.
Aerospace applications
Cellasto has been used successfully for over 35 years as the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) solution in various segments of the transportation industry e.g. bumpers, spring aids, coil spring isolators, shock mounts and body mounts.
Aerospace applications requiring superior noise and vibration suppression can benefit from Cellasto PU elastomer based friction dampers and snubbers to control movement of overhead bins, passenger and cargo doors. Other possibilities include fixed mounts to protect sensitive equipment and cargo from vibration as well as seat mounts to improve passenger comfort. Larger scale applications such as engine mounts and even landing gear dampers are feasible. Let us develop a customized solution for your NVH challenge.
Applications
Cellasto PU Elastomer mounts provide excellent mechanical properties to dampen vibration and isolate noise across a wide frequency range. As a compressible material, Cellasto can be used in small package spaces without compromising durability performance. The damper is also in itself much lighter than rubber (density is~ 0.35–0.65 g/cm3, rubber is much higher). Friction dampers made with Cellasto PU elastomers damper elements save space, weight, and reduce complexity in comparison to spring loaded, hydraulic or gas pressure pistons.
